Bobby Hughes Scholarship Fund

Shambhala NYC is proud to announce the establishment of the Bobby Hughes Scholarship Fund in honor of our beloved Operations Coordinator who passed away in late 2022. This fund is made possible by a very generous bequest by Mike and Erin Hughes.

This scholarship fund is aimed to assist practitioners aged 35 or under who have demonstrated a commitment to their meditation practice and their spiritual journey.  Recipients of the scholarship will receive tuition for programs offered by Shambhala Meditation Center of NY and, in some cases, assistance for retreats at Shambhala land centers such as Sky Lake Lodge and Karmê Chöling.

Remembering Bobby Hughes

Bobby Hughes joined the Shambhala New York community when he first moved to NYC in 2016 and was an avid participant in all of its offerings, especially Shambhala Training programs and the “In Everyday Life” classes. Over the years, his involvement grew and he became a much-cherished volunteer and then a vital member of the team as Operations Coordinator. He brought wisdom and kindness to every role he played, and his loss was felt deeply by the entire community.

Shambhala played a very large role in Bobby’s life, and he believed in sharing that with others. This scholarship fund honors his memory and continues his legacy in a profound way by helping to make the Shambhala teachings and path more accessible.
