2018 Sacred Path Program Schedule

The Shambhala Meditation Center of New York is pleased to present the 2018 calendar for the Sacred Path & Basic Goodness programs. The Sacred Path is open to those students who have completed Shambhala Training Weekends I-V and Unconditional Confidence: Rigden Weekend. (Students who have not yet attended the Rigden Weekend may begin the Sacred Path with the intention to complete Rigden at the next available opportunity.)

The Sacred Path is a series of weekend retreats that extend our basic meditation training and deepen the practice of warriorship. The series is based on a societal vision and aspiration to help the world. This level of training cultivates dignity to widen our sphere of compassionate and helpful influence.

The Sacred Path consists of the following weekend programs, taken in this sequence:

Great Eastern Sun & Windhorse

Drala

Meek & Perky

Outrageous & Inscrutable

Golden Key

Drala w/ Timothy Quigley
February 23rd-25th
The principle of drala refers to the sacred energy and power that exists when we step beyond aggression. Here we are introduced to teachings that invite us to sharpen our awareness of the subtle, unseen energies of our world. Through exploring the depth of perception, one engages the elemental and magical strength inherent in the environment.

Meek & Perky
April 6th-8th
“The four dignities” are introduced as a path and a process, which describe a warrior’s maturing and widening sphere of benevolent engagement in the world. The training in the dignities allows one to maintain awareness and delight at each stage.

Outrageous & Inscrutable
May 11th-13th
These fruitional dignities refer to the extraordinary skill of a practiced warrior. No longer afraid of making mistakes, the unconventional and visionary perspective of the outrageous warrior combines with the skill of spontaneous inscrutability to create benefit for others on a large scale.

ILLUMINATING BASIC GOODNESS IN 2018

In addition to the Sacred Path weekend retreats, Shambhala NYC is also offering advanced weekly courses known as the Basic Goodness series. The three courses that make up the series are meant to provide a sustained reflection on the meaning of basic goodness as it relates with our sense of self, others, and reality.

“In these challenging times, the flame of basic goodness has nearly been extinguished by the storm of concept, and the spirit of humanity has been so dampened that we experience our goodness as a faint echo. As brave people, we must find the courage to gently blow on this ember of goodness.”

– Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche

The Basic Goodness series consists of the following weekly courses, taken in any sequence:

Illuminating Basic Goodness: Identity & Belonging

Illuminating Basic Goodness: Transforming Self & Society

Illuminating Basic Goodness: Seeing Reality

Illuminating Basic Goodness: Transforming Self & Society
February 1st – March 8th, Thursdays 7-9pm
This six-week course focuses on transforming four aspects of society: family life, professional life, entertainment, and economy. Led by Timothy Quigley, this course explores how to bring compassion and wakefulness into each realm of our social lives, with an underlying aspiration to help others.
