Is your body uncomfortable when you meditate?  Do you experience tightness or holding in your neck, shoulders or back? Or maybe you just want to learn to be more fully in your body while you meditate?

Here to help ease us into a deeper sense of embodiment is visiting teacher Erika Berland. This two-hour workshop will explore a somatic approach to the posture of meditation, based on her recently published book, Sitting: The Physical Art of Meditation.

Erika will present principles of alignment, breathing, and experiential anatomy, as well as imagery exercises on how to release tension and stress and how to increase body awareness. 

Come and learn how to make gravity work for you rather than against you.

This workshop is open to beginning and experienced meditators alike, as well as guides and instructors who wish to expand their knowledge so they can help their students. 

About the Teacher

Erika Berland is a senior teacher in the Shambhala tradition. Erika is a Registered Movement Therapist, a licensed Massage Therapist and a Certified Practitioner of Body-Mind Centering (R). She is on the faculty of the Graduate Performing Arts Dept. at Naropa University where she teaches movement, somatics and meditation.
