This course is designed for new and returning meditators looking for an accessible venue to explore and deepen mindfulness-awareness meditation. Meditation in Everyday Life can also serve as a precursor to the Shambhala Training series.

“Meditation is essentially a process of becoming friends with yourself." - Lodro Rinzler, Mindfulness Meditation Teacher in the Shambhala Tradition

While meditation has many benefits, establishing a consistent personal practice can be extremely challenging for both new and experienced meditators alike. In that spirit, The Shambhala Meditation Center of New York presents the Meditation in Everyday Life course.

This four-week Mindfulness Meditation program is designed to help new meditators develop a regular practice and bring the benefits of mindfulness meditation to their daily lives.

As we begin to practice on a regular basis, we learn to relax and simply be with whatever is going on in our lives. Over time, this meditation helps us to cultivate courage, humor, and stability in the face of the everyday complexities of jobs, relationships, and all aspects of daily life.

Meditation in Everyday Life combines technique and view in a setting of support and community to provide you with everything you need to build a healthy, strong meditation practice.

Four 1 hour-long classes cover the following ground:

Class 1: Posture & Foundations of Meditation

Class 2: Breath & Feeling our Emotions

Class 3: Thoughts & Understanding our Human Worthiness

Class 4: Bringing it Together & Going Out Into the World

As a theme throughout the course, we’ll explore how creating stability and gentleness in our minds can expand outward to benefit our friends, family, neighbors, and society as a whole.

Meditation in Everyday Life begins the first Thursday of every month. Give yourself the gift of meditation and infuse your life and the lives of those around you with compassion, caring, and kindness.

“I thought the course was really excellent. It gave me the practical skills to start my meditation practice but it also gently introduced some greater themes that allowed me to reflect on how the practice resonates in other areas of my life.”

“The balance of sitting, sharing, and instruction felt just right.”

“It's a great introduction to meditation practices and helps dispel many of the misconceptions around the practice.”

“Learning the basics of meditation has made me more calm and cheerful, and, best of all, more helpful to others.”
