“It seems we all agree that training the body through exercise, diet, and relaxation is a good idea, but why don’t we think about training our mind?”
-Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche
Mediation is the relaxation and awakening of the mind, body, and heart. It is the simple act of learning to be, just as we are. Through meditation, we see how the mind works, which helps us to transform the patterns that cause stress, anxiety, and depression. Ultimately, meditation opens the door to our own sanity, so that we can lead a more authentic, more compassionate life.
The Shambhala Meditation Center of New York offers several entrances to the path of meditation:
Our weekly Tuesday night open house is the perfect introduction to mindfulness meditation. The evening consists of group meditation practice, a talk by one of our senior teachers, discussion, and a light reception. Meditation instruction is provided.
This sixty minute, basic meditation class is taught by one of our certified mindfulness meditation instructors and recommended for beginners, meditators new to this technique, or practitioners looking to refresh their practice.
This 5-week course is considered the meditator’s instruction manual. By the end, you’ll be equipped with tools to establish your own meditation practice.
