Community Events, Practice & Groups
Mindfulness meditation is the foundation practice of everything we do at the Shambhala Meditation Center. It helps develop our ability to pay attention to what's happening from moment to moment, without losing ourselves in our memories of the past or our anticipations of the future.
Group practice at the Shambhala Meditation Center directly strengthens the sangha, or community, by encouraging our individual commitments to a path of mindful living. Students of all levels are challenged to deepen their practice, heighten their curiosity, and explore their experience to the fullest.
Those ready for longer practice are encouraged to participate in weekthün or dathün retreats, week-long or month-long meditation intensives held at our affiliated residential centers. These programs are an important milestone for students of the Shambhala Buddhist path who wish to proceed to more advanced practice and seminary study. Community Groups
The Shambhala Meditation Center encourages a diverse group of individuals to explore common interests together so that we can more fully realize the joining of Shambhala principles and practices to our everyday life. Community gatherings and groups help us fulfill our role as sangha, or community of practitioners, by supporting one another on our individual paths of self-discovery. All gatherings are open to the public, and no one is turned away for lack of funds.

Shambhala Playgroup
Every Friday, 10am - 11:15am
$5 - 10 suggested donation
Becoming a parent opens up new opportunities to work with emotion, time, and "off the cushion" practice. The Shambhala playgroup is an informal gathering that welcomes parents and children to visit and informally share their experiences of bringing mindfulness practice into parenting. We meet with the intention of forming community and helping each other to view parenting as practice and path, especially during periods when formal sitting practice is compromised. We envision laughter, listening, tips, tissues, favorite books, and shared stories to form the foundation of this community. Newborn babies through pre-school children are welcome to attend. Please bring one or two toys for children to share during play.
